Specialized Centers
Catholic Hematology Hospital
The Catholic Hematology Hospital is the largest hematology hospital in Asia with globally recognized expertise. Since it successfully performed sibling hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) on a patient from the UAE in 2012, it has carried out more than 100 cases of HSCT on international patients. The Bone Marrow Transplant Center has been upgraded and expanded into Catholic Hematology Hospital to provide more systemic treatment to patients. The hospital has exceeded 9,000 cases of HSCT in March 2021 in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and reached 9,717 cases as of June 2022. It has long been recognized as a quaternary hospital of blood cancer treatment based on the outstanding clinical performance in blood cancer and acute myeloid leukemia.
Comprehensive Cancer Institute
The Comprehensive Cancer Institute consists of 12 centers, including Bone Marrow Transplant Center. Its multidisciplinary treatment team provides specialized treatment of each cancer type, thereby improving patients’ satisfaction and survival rates of refractory cancer. Advanced medical devices and big data technology optimize cancer treatment and reduce adverse effects, supporting fast recovery of patients. To minimize treatment period, one-stop medical service is offered. It only takes 7 days until the patient gets surgery from the first visit.
Cardio-Cerebro-Vascular Hospital
The Cardio-Cerebro-Vascular Hospital consists of Cardiovascular Center, Cerebrovascular Center and Aortic & Peripheral Blood Vessel Center. The hospital has outstanding expertise in coronary artery bypass graft surgery and acute myocardial infarction treatment. Emergency treatment is readily available, 24/7. Moreover, the hospital offers preemptive therapy for diseases that are difficult to treat. Its multidisciplinary treatment system has reduced complication rates after treatment to less than 1%, showing unrivaled clinical performance.
Organ Transplantation Center
The Organ Transplantation Center has become a pacesetter in organ transplantation in Korea, successfully performing a kidney transplantation in 1969 for the first time in Korea and a liver transplant from a brain-dead donor in 1993. Moreover, since it performed the first small bowel transplant in Korea in 2004, it has become the only hospital in Korea that has conducted small bowel transplant. Furthermore, it reached 1,000 cumulative cases of liver transplant in 2020 and 3,500 cumulative cases of kidney transplant in 2021. Professional medical staff and coordinators dedicated to each type of organ transplantation closely monitor patients. Recently, the center has performed a spousal donor kidney transplantation on a patient who had been infected with COVID-19. Likewise, the center is strengthening its leading position in organ transplantation.
Eye Center
The Eye Center performed the first artificial cornea transplant in Korea in 1980, cumulating the largest number of cases of cornea transplant for the past 38 years as of 2018. It is a leading center in cataract treatment, vision correction surgery and cornea transplant. Ophthalmologists provide quality medical services, such as treatment for cataract, glaucoma, retinopathy and pediatric eye diseases, plastic surgery, cornea transplant, and vision correction surgery.
An Isolation Ward for International Patients
Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital has prepared an isolation ward where international patients with severe diseases who made an appointment prior to their entry to Korea are transferred immediately to the hospital after tested negative for COVID-19, according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Patients are under close monitoring of the doctor during the two-week hospital quarantine and can get safe treatment promptly after the quarantine ends.
International Health Care Center (IHCC)
The International Health Care Center provides primary care, immigration medical examination, vaccination and drug prescription before travel as well as consultations with a rheumatologist, internist and psychologist. The center helps patients not only treat their diseases, but also prevent them and improve their lifestyles. It closely cooperates with other clinical departments to refer patients to appropriate outpatient and inpatient care. When a patient is referred to other clinical departments, coordinators of IHCC provide interpretation service for their convenience.
Emergency treatment is available at any time at Emergency Room of the hospital where an English-speaking doctor is attending 24/7 for international patients. Other language services are provided by coordinators of IHCC.
